Review of Sports Day and Founder's Run [mr thomas email]

 Review of Sports Day and Founder's Run

Lau Wei Yiang
From the start, when I saw Nobel's 2025 calendar, I knew something mischevious is about to happen.

Management had gotten fed up of so many Bullseye victories. After analyzing all the  Sports Day results, performances and the like, management has decided to separate Sports Day and Founder's Run from each other.

In the past 8 years, as I said, 5 of those years had determined Bullseye's fate as the victor of Sports Day, namely 2019, 2020, 2021,  2022 and 2023. In addition to those five years, 2017 also decided the winner of Sports Day. Touchdown won Sports  Day and Founder's Run in 2017.

The management is afraid of a large mob of Bullseye supporters and enthusiasts snatching so many Sports Days, Nobel Cups and Founder's Run. Given Bullseye's triple landslide of all the Sports Day, Nobel Cup and Founder's Run 2023, the management had to act. As 2024 was the 20th Anniversary of Nobel International School and 10th anniversary since Bullseye's first victory, they knew something MUST be done, or else Bullseye will continue winning every year.

First, Nobel Cup wasn't included in the Sports Day tally. When Bullseye won the 2024 Founder's Run, they inflated the scores so much for Sports Day because of the amazing performance of Bullseye in the Founder's Run. So because of this, the management changed the scoring format for the judging and athletics events in order to allow other houses to overpower Bullseye. They had planned to award the march, dance and banner to other houses so that Bullseye cannot win.

Points are fixed for the judging competition when the marks were decided by the judges in the past based on a scoring rubric and directly added to the scores. This time, there are fixed scores. Winner in 2024 got 200 points for winning either march, dance or banner. Then, the score for the athletics events as I said, was changed....

Scoring format for Sports Day 2020 Athletic Events:

1st = 10 points
2nd = 5 points
3rd = 3 points

Scoring format for the 20th Anniversary Sports Day:

1st = 100 points
2nd = 50 points
3rd = 20 points

We managed to determine the points format as all scores end in 0.

Scoring format for the UNLEASH - Sports Day 2025 should be

1st = 15 points
2nd = 10 points
3rd = 5 points

Management decided to put Sports Day in February so that it disadvantages Bullseye's preparation. The 2023 Sports Day was also bound by Bullseye to also be lost, too. However, it was saved because of the delay of the sports events by the heatwave, thus allowing more preparation time.

Management had studied pre-Covid sports events and found out that Nobel Cup is the hardest to win because of the short timeframe and that it is the first competition. Hence, there will be no impetus for houses to buy time to make a turnaround, as seen in 2020, 2022 and 2023 for the Sports Day, Founder's Run, Nobel Cup and overall score, whichever is placed early or late. And because Sports Day took so long to prepare and organize, this is why the management does not want to continue with this method.

They know that if Sports Day is at the end of the year, new students would be well prepared to tackle the score. Also, they know the students are influenced by us. They are very scared. They know they are overpowered.

The Founder's Run being put at high prices and set on Saturdays is a good amount of proof to suffocate Bullseye of the much-needed points. They do this under the pretext of getting parents to join the fun.

The Nobel Cup is axed. Why? The teachers said that it was a waste of time, but also because Bullseye is winning.

You'd also have to know that in Year 10, a trio of basketballers, namely Ng Chi How, Aiden Yeoh and Choo Han Yi, are very good at basketball. Two of them are good in athletics. From the research I did, basketball is a contributor to the Nobel Cup scores for Bullseye. This happened in 2022 and 2023.

Management cut off all sources of points for Bullseye. Hence, Bullseye CANNOT win. It was Mr Narish who decided to combine all of them together in 2017. Not everyone is involved in Sports Day.  Now, with Mr Narish gone, all the management members sliced up the score.

Tldr: If Founder's Run, Nobel Cup and Sports Day are put together for 2024 and 2025, Bullseye will be the winner. Bullseye must aim to build a strong athletics base or risk being obliterated.

For all of us outside Nobel, communication with current students and graduating alumni; the latest ones, is important to ensure the victory.

Since the start of Sports Day 2025 preparations - I had no opportunity to meet the students. No opportunity. I wish to meet with all students, discuss with them, and then by all means, present the proposal to the captain for fine-tuning. I want to meet all of them to share my passion for Bullseye, get them motivated and remind them about the most important thing - Management DOES NOT WANT BULLSEYE TO WIN.

I have stated it CLEARLY and CONCISELY in the Bullseye Recovery Plan. The Management will use all tricks to make sure Bullseye is the loser. And when I say that the Management does not want Bullseye to win and to do something to disadvantage Bullseye, I am not demotivating the Bullseye members, but I want the Bullseye members to adjust themselves to ensure a victory for Bullseye by going about the hassle and inconveniences placed by the management to block Bullseye's victory.

Instead, we have a strict school security policy, strict social media security policy, and the fact that this crosses boundaries of security......shows that the complexity is very serious. This means Bullseye is split into two just like North and South Korea by this boundary.

But the Bullseye members have a problem. They might be a bit nervous to approach us (unless they know us well)

There will be no sports events for the rest of 2025. In the meantime, we can  prepare our PhD stuff, the Standard Chartered Marathon, and from the start of the school holidays, formulate a new strategy for Founder's Run, Sports Day and all the events next year.
