For Bullseye's first  Sports Day as a  sports house, see 2013 Sports Day.

For the failed attempt to win a fourth victory year, see 2017 Sports Day

The 2023 Sports Day was a series of events that took place  between March 2023 and November 2023, concerning events leading up to the Sports Day. The Sports Day 2023 consisted  of the Telematch, Founder's Run, Nobel Cup and Sports Day. The champion house of the overall championship was Bullseye. The victory of Bullseye marked the fifth victory year for Bullseye, and the official confirmation of the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Sports Day victory years cancelled due to Covid 19. The results produced a shocking gasp for the Bullseye members.

The  year 2023 is the fourth year after 2014, 2015 and 2022 to see a sports  house  win all competitions  in the  same  academic  year. The 2023 Sports Day was also the first Sports Day to combine the Nobel Cup, Founder's Run and Sports  Day tally since the 2019 Sports Day and the  cancelled 2020 Sports Day. It is also the first year since 2019 where  Bullseye won the Sports Day, Founder's  Run and Nobel  Cup in the overall lineup; the 2019  tally spanned  two calendar  years under the  planning and directive  of Mr Narish, and the Bullseye team won the 2018 Nobel Cup, 2019 Founder's Run and 2019 Sports Day. It is also the third  time where such a lineup in winning the overall tally existed; the 2016 Nobel  Cup, 2017 Founder's Run and 2017 Sports Day were won by Touchdown.

This is also the first Sports Day to take place since  the relocation of  Nobel  International School to Damansara Jaya from Kelana Jaya in 2023. The 2023 Sports Day is one of three Sports  Days to take place within a span of half a year apart from each other; the others being the 20th Anniversary Sports Day and the Unleash - Sports Day  2025. The 20th Anniversary Sports  Day took place on 2nd July 2024 and the Unleash - Sports Day 2025 on 28th  February 2025.

Background

Bullseye victories

Bullseye was the winner of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Sports Day, and the 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 Nobel Cup. Following the 2019 Sports Day, Bullseye was on track to win four victory years, fulfilling the 2017 Bullseye Legacy Plan first drawn up in 2014.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, crucial athletic skills were unable to be transferred from graduating students and passed on to  the existing or new students entering Nobel International School. The previous Sports Day was held on 22nd March 2019 and a considerable  bit of time had passed since then. This resulted in the Bullseye  members  being  less athletic than before due  to the  long lull in sports  events.

The 2023 Sports Day is considered important for Bullseye because if Bullseye wins both the Sports Day before and after the Covid  19  pandemic lockdowns, it will win all years in between both Sports Days; the 2019 and 2023 Sports Day.

Relocation of Nobel International School from Kelana  Jaya to Damansara Jaya

In January 2023, Nobel International School relocated from its existing Kelana Jaya campus to the new Damansara Jaya campus after years of unaddressed overcrowding and lack of space at the old campus. The plan for a new campus had begun as early as 2019, when Mr Chan Lik Hoong suggested buying a new campus specifically for A Level students during the 2019 Founder's Run. Later, in November 2019, the management confirmed that plans to design the A Level syllabus were underway. The management agreed that a new building be sourced for the A Level students, and a second option was also presented involving the school's relocation to a new site should existing capacity grow beyond the planned capacity.

On 22nd July 2022, Nobel International School entered into a sale and purchase agreement with the University of Wollongong - KDU, to purchase the KDU College building at Damansara Jaya following the relocation of KDU College to Glenmarie, Shah Alam. Nobel International School finished the sales and purchase agreement and completed purchase of the building on 20th October 2022. The school relocated to Damansara Jaya, known as the Big Move, between December 2022 and January 2023. The original plans called for a phased relocation from January to July 2023. Outgoing Year 11 students were given a  tour of the new campus' location before their graduation from Nobel on 28th November 2022.  The old campus in Kelana Jaya had been put up for sale.

Following Nobel International School's relocation to the Damansara Jaya campus, residents of Damansara Jaya had frequently complained about the school's traffic congestion and noise pollution, resulting in videos and photos of the entire act uploaded on the Damansara Jaya Residents' and Owners' Association community Facebook page. The school held a meeting with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) on Wednesday, 15th February 2023, in which the school agreed to use the basement parking as drop off and pick up areas for students in the short term, and was proposed to write in a proposal to MBPJ to build an exit ramp onto the Damansara-Puchong Highway from the school premises.

Through today, Nobel International School had been the negative rouses of residents of Damansara Jaya for traffic congestion and noise pollution.

Format

The 2023 Sports Day was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, 23rd June  2023, with the Founder's Run on 1st  July  2023. The Sports Day preparations were coordinated by Mr  Lew Wei Him, the  head of CCA, Mr Wong, a Chemistry and  Science teacher, and Mr Marcus. This is Mr  Lew's first  time directing  Sports Day.  Under the  plans, the Sports  Day was  to  be stripped of its dance, march and banner contests, and that the  Sports Day was  to be separated from Founder's Run, and Nobel  Cup was not planned to be held. The management team intended to increase the professionalism of Nobel as an international  school, and felt that the march, dance and banner events were not suitable for professionalism as an international school.

On Monday, 6th February 2023, Mr Lew  Wei Him announced that a Telematch Competition will be  held in conjunction with the Sports Day. Mr Lew  also announced  that there would be a change in the format for Sports Day; the Sports Day tally  will consist of points  obtained from the 2023 Telematch Competition,  2023 Founder's Run registrations and 2023 Sports Day events. The Telematch Competition was to be held during PE lessons from 13th to 25th February 2023.

The 2023 Sports Day and associated events were done on a low scale and with less events as the school wanted to start small on a warm-up basis following the Covid 19 pandemic, and that a large-scale event was too overwhelming.

2023 heatwave and change in format

A heatwave begun in April 2023 in Malaysia, coinciding with the Southwest Monsoon  period. The timing of the 2023 Sports Day  coincided with the heatwave, forcing the postponement of the Sports Day. The postponement of Sports Day was made on Monday, 17th April 2023, and was announced by Mr Lew Wei Him during the morning assembly.

On 3rd May 2023, the Malaysian government issued a ban on outdoor activities due to the heatwave, after the deaths of several children  in isolated cases related to the heatwave. The ban was partially lifted in June 2023, and a full relaxation by mid July 2023. Nevertheless, on 16th June 2023, the Founder's Run was announced to be postponed.

On 10th  July 2023, Mr Lew Wei Him announced that the Founder's Run would be held on 22nd July 2023. Separately, Mr Lew also announced that the Sports Day was tentatively scheduled for  December 2023, although he did not disclose additional dates.

On 10th October 2023, Sports Day was announced for 20th November 2023, with the Nobel Cup scheduled for 10th November 2023.

Key people

Mr Lew Wei Him

Mr Lew Wei  Him is Nobel International School's Head of CCA since 2022. Prior  to 2022, Mr Lew worked as Head  of  CCA for Tenby Schools, Setia Eco Park. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree  in Sports Nutrition from  Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Mr Lew is well known for his enthusiastic leadership styles and youthful approach to students of Nobel.

Mr Wong

Mr Wong is the head of the Science Department at Nobel International School and is also a PE and Basketball teacher. Mr  Wong teaches Chemistry and Physics for Year 10 and 11, and  Science for Year 9 students. Apart from academics, Mr Wong also runs the Nobel Chinese Calligraphy Club and is also  the Basketball CCA teacher.

Mr Marcus

Mr Marcus joined Nobel International School in 2018  and is a PE  teacher. He was Nobel's Deputy Head of Sports and Recreation in 2022, serving alongside Mr Jayakumar.

Declaration of support by Mr Thomas for Bullseye

Mukadyil Koshy Thomas, mainly addressed as Mr Thomas or M.K Thomas, was a  First Language English teacher at Nobel International School. He  joined Nobel  International School in 2012 and was  the assistant Head of the English Department. Mr Thomas  retired from Nobel in 2021, and had been teaching since 1969.

When Mr Thomas was in Nobel, he was in Touchdown. Following his exit from Nobel, Mr Thomas threw his weight behind Bullseye and requested Wei Yiang  in March 2023 to explain the Bullseye projects.

Proposed Golden Statue of Bullseye

On 6th March 2023, Mr Thomas invited Wei Yiang to explain about his Bullseye  projects  and  the  history of  Bullseye. Mr Thomas was satisfied with the  explanation and requested that  Wei Yiang write to the school to propose  for an erection of a statue on the school grounds to commemorate Bullseye's victory.  Mr Thomas said that the statue must be made  of real granite and it must  be made of gold and its pedestal should be inscribed with  the list of Bullseye's eleven house captains, athletes, and also contain some form of  the history of Bullseye on it.

Wei Yiang suggested that the statue, due to certain considerations, cannot be erected on the school grounds and that the management may not accept it. Mr Thomas said that the statue cannot be taken "outside the Damansara area, or else it will attract attention." Wei Yiang  proposed that recycled materials be used to create the statue, but however, Mr Thomas  insisted on a real statue with "the real stuff". Hence, Wei Yiang wrote  the letter to the school, but it was not acted upon.

The statue's design was to be based on the 2022  Bullseye banner drawn  by Wei Yiang, consisting of a medical frontliner in PPE  gown holdying a  syringe on a bow and  carrying the  flag of  Bullseye, complete with the inscription of the Bullseye victory years and the list of the house captains on it. Mr Thomas said  that "Dominic Chow must not be forgotten.  My student." He had also proposed erecting four statues on the site, one each to commemorate the past four Bullseye victories  in an official competitive Sports Day; 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019.

The statue eventually served as  the inspiration for the Chee Fooi Foon design for Sports Day.

Proposed extension of Bullseye victory

On 18th December 2022, Wei Yiang proposed extending the Bullseye victory streak from 2022 to 2023, citing the  need to solidify and make an unprecedented case for Bullseye. The  plan was to extend the four year  victory streak to five years.

Wei  Yiang noticed  that the four-year victory streak, which was planned in 2014, was tipped with a caveat; even though the victory streak wasn't  achieved, the first three Bullseye victory years streak begun in  April 2014 and ended in March 2017, lasting a  total of  four calendar  years. This means that if compared with the second Bullseye victory, the second one, should Bullseye lose 2023, would, despite ending in 2023, would have a total of four full achieved victory years. This still places Wei Yiang on the boundary as his peers who lost; reaching the four-year mark. The comparison of Wei Yiang vs Sean Mark still played in the balance, as both individuals had reached the four year mark; regardless of whether the victory was achieved. One was achieved with the full resources and support of the school; another as an alumni with limited resources.

In order to send a message to the 2017 Bullseye committee; a message must be also made clear - that Bullseye must win the 2023 Sports Day. Given that 2017 and 2023 share the exact same calendar, the victory of 2023 should undoubtedly honor the commitments of 2017. Winning 2023 was also crucial to confirm the 2020,  2021 and 2022 years which do not have valid certification because there is little to  no competition involved. This, along with the 2019 victory of Bullseye, would allow Bullseye to achieve a complete victory, as according to Wei Yiang, "a dragon must have a head and a tail". At the same time,  the five  year  victory plan will span a total of five calendar years, making the  2019 Sports Day the only Sports Day in which all the Bullseye members at the time of the 2019  victory were part  of a Sports Day victory when each of them graduated in Year 11.

Hail to Bullseye

On 1st March 2023, Wei  Yiang suggested changing the format  of the cheer from "Go Bullseye"  to "Hail to Bullseye" after discovering that every  cheer had  the phrase of the former. Wei Yiang said that the phrase "Hail to Bullseye" was more motivating and it can be flexibly used  in conversations and  communications. Although the phrase  was not adopted by the rest of the Bullseye members, it was praised as innovative.  The  phrase was deprived when Wei Yiang was  referring to Chee Fooi Foon as a chief, and  that  "Hail to the Chief" was used to describe Chee Fooi Foon, the principal of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft).

Wei Yiang  subsequently announced 22nd March as a  Bullseye National Day, and that every day till 9th April annually will  become a Bullseye National Day  celebration as the  duration consisted  of a slew of dates of  the previous Sports Days.

2023 House  Captain Election

The 2023 House Captain Election took place  on Friday, 10th February  2023, during the  Homeroom time. The election was held in the Marie  Curie Hall involving all Bullseye members, who elected  Derrick Chou Chuan U as the male House Captain of Bullseye,  Alyssa Lim Zi Xuan as the female House Captain of Bullseye, Cayden Onn Whey Jer as the male assistant captain, and Chin Yu Xin as the female assistant captain. This is one of two house captain elections to involve the appointment of four house captains; two for each gender, to achieve gender  balance.

Starting  from June 2023, Wei Yiang regularly addressed Derrick as the Big Boss of Bullseye when communicating plans to Derrick Chou.

2023 Telematch Competition

The 2023 Telematch competition took place on Monday, 21st March 2023. The telemarch competition took place during PE  hours and was supervised by Mr  Victor Kwong. The winner of the telematch competition was Touchdown at 1400 points, followed by Homerun at 1250 points, Bullseye at 1200 points and Slamdunk at 1000 points. The results initially put Touchdown in  the lead and it  seemed  like Bullseye was about to lost  the Sports Day. The 2023 Telematch results were the first results of the Sports Day.

Bullseye  Victory FAQ

On 21st April 2023, Wei  Yiang published a list of  ten frequently -asked questions  (FAQ), titled "Why a 2023  Bullseye victory is so important". The  FAQ was  presented  to  Jolene Ooi, a Year 10 student from Bullseye. The Bullseye victory FAQ consisted  of reasons from feng shui to the history of Bullseye, to persuade Bullseye members to win the Sports Day. The biggest reason highlighting this rationale was the birthday of Hing Fook Soon, as  it  coincides with the 2023 Sports Day  on 23rd June 2023.

2023  Bullseye  banner

Wei Yiang designed the 2023  Bullseye Sports Day banner in January 2023,  which aimed to focus on Chinese culture. The main intent was to coincide with the birthday of Hing  Fook Soon on 23rd June 2023; the original date of Sports Day, and be based on a Chinese painting. The painting consisted of mountains, a red sun, and a valley with a figure holding a Bullseye flag while running. The mountain was based on the Covid 19 confirmed cases and tests from 2020 to 2023 and aside from the mountain, and there are three coronaviruses shot with arrows to depict the Bullseye analogy and defeat of all the other houses, referencing the Hou Yi legendary tale.

The words 'Bullseye' are engraved with Chinese style brush ink and calligraphy techniques, while a hibiscus flower with five interlocking hibiscus flowers are depicted to reference the five Bullseye victory years, the five principles of the Rukunnegara and the five core values of Nobel International School in order to reference it to the 60th Anniversary of the Formation of Malaysia in 2023.

Hibiscus cutouts referencing banner history

For the 2023 Sports Day, in order to commemorate the 8th edition of the Founder's Run, eight cutouts of hibiscus flowers were done, which were presented on the Founder's Run. The flowers were originally to be presented on Sports Day but were not done to save time. Each flower contained a banner design for  each year from 2016 to 2023 which were designed by Lau Wei Yiang, to commemorate the designs over the years.

2023 Founder's Run

The 2023 Founder's Run took place on Saturday, 22nd July 2023. It was the first Founder's Run to take place on a Saturday, and the first physical Founder's Run since the 2020 Founder's Run on 14th February  2020. Aside from the  physical  run, a virtual edition of the  run took place  from 27th May 2023 to 16th June  2023.  The run was further extended to 2nd July 2023.

The 2023  Founder's Run was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday,  1st  July 2023. On 10th April 2023, Nobel International School  announced  that the Elementary School would join the run and that the  run  would take place during the  Elementary School's PE hours. The main event will be  held at Taman  Botani Negara  Shah Alam on 1st  July 2023, and registrations were  open  for students, parents, teachers,  the A Level students and alumni.

On 17th April 2023,  the Sports Day was postponed due to the heatwave, as announced by Mr Lew Wei Him. The Founder's Run was  originally intended to still go ahead on 1st July; Nobel International School postponed  the Founder's Run as announced in a message 16th June 2023 that the  Founder's Run would be postponed to a later date. The new date for Founder's Run was announced for 22nd July 2023  on 10th July 2023.

In the registrations, Slamdunk had the most registrations, followed by Touchdown, Bullseye and  Homerun, resulting in the similar such placement overall. Each student contributed 2  points to their sports house  for registering for the run.

Virtual Run

On 31st December 2022, Lau Wei Yiang unveiled a plan for Bullseye to win the 2023  Founder's Run. The plans called for every Bullseye member to register and train for the run. Aside  from that, the plans also called for the sweeping of all Top 10 positions to claim the Champion House Trophy for  the Founder's Run, and training ten  to twenty Bullseye runners  to claim it. The plan was unveiled in case a virtual run awards points per cumulative  mileage  run by all Bullseye  members.  In this hypothetical  scenario, the  points will be awarded  based  on how  many km is run.  The plan had  been in progress since early December 2022. The aim of  winning  the Founder's Run was to allow Bullseye  to have  an added advantage of winning the Sports  Day.

When the virtual run was announced to include the exact thing Wei Yiang predicted, Wei Yiang proposed to Jovyn Lim to include the suggestion and motivate the Bullseye members. This caused Bullseye to win the virtual run. The first  lead of  Bullseye in the virtual run was confirmed  on 23rd June; the original date  of Sports Day and Hing Fook Soon's birthday. The virtual run was conducted via the Biib application. The Virtual  Run was originally planned from 27th May to 16th June 2023; it was subsequently extended to 2nd July 2023.

On 10th July 2023, Mr Lew Wei  Him confirmed  that the results of the Virtual Run were added  to the physical run during the morning assembly. The results received widespread applause from all the Bullseye members.

Physical Run

The physical run was scheduled for Saturday, 22nd  July 2023. The  run was attended by Lau Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang.

The 2023  Founder's Run begun at 7:00am with the  arrival of the students from Nobel  International School via private transport; each student was required to head to the venue  with their parents. Following each runner's registration at the registration counter, students were  directed to sit in their house lines.

The warm up for the run was led by Ms Cynthia Cheok and Mr Jayakumar, who invited all the house captains and committee members from each house to  lead the school  in a Zumba session with  a song dedicated to Auntie Clarine. Following the warm up, each student was told to  line up according to their year level, and were flagged off by Ms Bee Yong and Auntie Clarine. The students were  flagged off at 8:00am.

At 8:35am, a sudden downpour wrecked  the Founder's Run. This was then followed by  lightning, which caused danger to the runners. Each student was handed a leaf by teachers who were patrolling around  the venue. There were a total of four water stations located along the route  for students to quench their  thirst while  running.

All students finished running by 9:30am, followed by a prize giving ceremony by Auntie Clarine. Students were told to line up in their houses for the ceremony, and winners were awarded medals after lining up near the winner's table. The Founder's Run was successfully defended by Enid Chow Ming  Wai, who won the Year  10 and 11 5km female category. Wong Rui Zhi  became  the second alumni after Lau Wei Yiang  to win a position  in the alumni category. Aside from Rui Zhi and  Wei Yiang, Caleb Chuang  joined  the  alumni at  the Founder's Run.

Auntie Clarine  commended the students for running  in the rain and that they were  full of grit. The emceeing was done by Ms Shamalatha Cynthia.

Because  the 2023 Founder's Run took place in rainy weather, the run was known as the 'Run in the Rain'.

The physical Founder's Run saw Slamdunk winning many of the competitions, followed by Bullseye, Touchdown and  Homerun. The sports schedule was  paused in lieu of the 2023 IGCSE Trial Exams, 2023 Assessment 2 and 2023 Selangor  State Election.

Solictation of support of Chee Fooi Foon

After the Selangor state elections on 12th August 2023, Wei  Yiang announced on 14th August 2023 that he will apply for  Chee Fooi Foon to formally support  Bullseye. Chee Fooi Foon was the principal of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft), a primary school  in Puchong, Selangor. Chee Fooi Foon is now serving as principal of SJKC Serdang Baru  2 in Serdang, Selangor.

According to Wei Yiang, getting a principal to support Bullseye will help boost the standings of Bullseye in the sports events, because of the stature  of the position of  the principal. To be specific, Wei Yiang chose a Chinese vernacular primary school's principal to support Bullseye. To boost claims that the principal supported Bullseye, Wei Yiang chose SJKC Shin  Cheng (Harcroft) as it was near his home.

In Malaysian Chinese vernacular schools, principals are generally considered serious and strict principals who have hardline attitudes. Each Chinese school will normally have  a principal with a disciplinary approach, which would spark terror and ire among students of  such schools. Most Chinese school  principals will have  a serious, all-work approach, and  also possess a culture of fear among  most Chinese school students.

Before the plan was  presented, Wei Yiang had consulted with parents and students  of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft) as early as January 2023 on what their views were towards the possibility of Chee Fooi Foon supporting Bullseye.  The  plans received widespread support from the students of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft) who also agreed to support Bullseye.

On 23rd September 2023, Wei Yiang received Chee Fooi Foon's support  during the 2023 SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft)  Sports Day. Following the declaration of approval for Bullseye, plans were unveiled on 12th October 2023 to design a mock up sign containing the name of  Chee  Fooi Foon for  the Sports Day. The conveyance  of Chee Fooi Foon's support was also delivered on 11th September  2023 via Koh Khai Wen, Wei Yiang's neighbor, and presented to Derrick Chou, the 2023 House Captain of  Bullseye, along with strategies for Bullseye to win the Sports Day. According to Derrick, he expressed appreciation and support for the plans  to win the Sports Day.

The Chee Fooi Foon declaration for  Bullseye won the support of many Bullseye members and was the talk of the  town for the 2023 Sports Day.

Chee Fooi Foon signage

The  plans for the Chee  Fooi Foon signage were formally  drawn  from a design of Chee Fooi Foon's name. In conjunction with the  2022 SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft) Sports Day on 3rd October 2022, a design of her name was drawn as chalk art on 21st September  2022 as chalk art on the road in front of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft). The design involved turning the  letters into smiley faces; the letters E and O would become eyes along with eyebrows. The design invoked laughter and  excitement among the students.

In October 2023, a  design was drawn up to involve the Chee Fooi Foon words from 2022  on a pedestal. The  design would be incorporated with short legs and hands. The words would transfer into funny figures holding flags and wearing red caps. The red caps were removed to simplify the design.

On 27th October 2023, Mr Thomas appealed the design and suggested that horns be added atop the figures to turn  them into bulls, to become  synonymous with the phrase of Bullseye. The initial design was referred that they appeared as 'devils', but soon grew in popularity and excitement among Bullseye members. Following the design, construction of the design begun. The figures initially were planned to use styrofoam as material, but were changed to discarded cardboard boxes. The design was met with excitement and laughter  on the 2023 Sports Day from the  Bullseye members.

The Chee Fooi Foon name design for Bullseye involving the bull horns and funny legs were incorporated into the banner designs of Lau Wei Yiang for the 2024 and 2025 Sports Day.

Bullseye's Christmas Tree

In July 2023,  plans were unveiled for a Christmas tree to be displayed during the 2023 Sports Day, as the plans were unveiled for Sports Day to be  held at the end of the year. Unlike all other plans, this plan was  not originally planned for  the Sports Day  when it was first announced for 23rd June. The idea was  brought up after the postponement  of  the Sports Day  and that it was tentatively announced for December.

The inspiration for the Christmas tree was sourced from the 2022 Class Party theme of 7 Courageous, a class from Year 7 in 2022. The theme of the Class Party varied by each level; the class party theme for Year 7 was Christmas. During the 2022 Class Party, Zoe Siah Su Yi, a student from 7 Courageous,  drew a picture of a Christmas tree and fireplace on the class' whiteboard to commemorate the Christmas celebration during the class party.  As Zoe is from  Bullseye, Wei Yiang decided to incorporate  Zoe's Christmas drawing by designing  a Christmas  tree for the Sports Day.

Unlike previous  Nobel  International School students, post 2022 Nobelians are now more  open to celebrating Christmas at  the end of the year. Therefore, to commemorate Christmas in advance, a  Christmas  tree was designed for Sports Day. Wei Yiang and Mr Thomas decided on a tree and studied three different designs for the Christmas tree  before settling on a cardboard cutout of a Christmas tree. The tree had eight snowflakes to illustrate the Bullseye victory years, and six skiiers and snowboarders to represent  the Nobel Cup victories. A mountain and sun and Chinese painting-style theme consistent with  the official banner was painted.

2024 House Captain Election

On Friday, 20th  October 2023, following the Final Year Examination, the Bullseye members gathered at the Marie Curie Hall  to elect the next  house captain  of Bullseye. A new house captain election was announced by Mr Lew Wei Him to elect the 2024 House Captain, which will preside over two Sports Days;  the 2023 Sports Day and  the  upcoming 20th Anniversary Sports Day  in 2024. The reason the next house captain election was announced was because the Year 11  students were told to focus on their IGCSE exam and that they will be unable to lead Sports Day to ensure that they  concentrate on their IGCSE exams.

This made the 2023 and 2024 Sports Days the first Sports Day since the 2012 and 2013 Sports Days to have a single captain preside over both Sports Days. Aidan Ooi and Soh Yu Yee were elected as the house captains along their two other assistants [please include names]

*The house captain list for 2024 is incomplete.

Meeting during Year 8 field trip

On 1st November 2023, Wei Yiang met the Year 8 students, including Bullseye members at Zoo Negara. When the Bullseye members were shown a text titled "Bullseye, all the best!", they screamed and shouted enthusiastically. The act was booed by members of the  other houses.

Prior to the field trip, Mr Thomas advised the Bullseye that they should listen to the leader. When asked who the leader was, Mr Thomas said Wei Yiang was the leader, resulting in hillarious laughter.

2023 Nobel Cup

The 2023 Nobel Cup was held on 10th  November 2023. The Nobel Cup  took place at Nobel International School. It was  the first  Nobel Cup to fully take place on school  premises, and the latest edition of the Nobel Cup. The Nobel Cup has not been held for the Academic Year 2024 and 2025. The winner of the  Nobel Cup was Bullseye.

Originally,  in the  2023 Calendar, the plan was not to hold Nobel Cup  for the year  2023 as part  of the Sports Day scores. However, due to the heatwave, the Sports Day was pushed to the end of the year. To increase and encourage competition, the Nobel Cup was introduced.

2023 Sports Day

The 2023 Sports Day took place at the Panasonic Stadium, Shah Alam, on 20th November 2023. Originally scheduled for 23rd June 2023, it was moved due to the heatwave, which rendered inhospitable conditions for sports activities. The Sports Day was announced on 21st August 2023 for November 2023 by Mr Lew Wei Him during the morning assembly, although he did not give a date. On 15th September 2023, Mr Lew announced Sports Day for December. The date was announced as 20th November on 10th October 2023.

Prior to the  Sports Day in June 2023, Wei Yiang said that if the Sports Day was held before Founder's Run, it would  damage  Bullseye's chances in the Sports Day, and that the Founder's Run must be held before Sports Day if it wanted to  improve its placing.

The 2023 Sports Day is the first Sports Day to take place in the morning since the 2010 Sports  Day. It is also the final Sports Day of Ms Bee Yong, the Principal of Nobel International School.  The Sports  Day was emceed  by Mr Steve Lim and Ms Sarah Wong.  Both teachers  had experiences  in emceeing major events and directing concerts and performing arts shows, such as the 2017 Gen-N  Dreaming Out Loud  concert. Mr Steve was also the co director of the 10th Anniversary Concert in July 2014. Ms Sarah Wong teaches Global Perspectives for Year 7 students and English Literature for Year 10 and 11 students; Mr Steve taught Mandarin Foreign Language  for Year  10 and 11 students for the  IGCSE exams and Mandarin for Year 7, 8 and 9 students.

The 2023 Sports Day is also the first Sports Day to take place after the completion of  all the IGCSE examinations. The postponement of Sports Day also resulted in the postponement of  the school year in order to allow for the Year 11 students to partake in the Sports Day. For the first time in Nobel's history, Year 11 students  participated  in the Sports Day after the conclusion of their IGCSE exams.

The opening ceremony of the 2023 Sports Day was led by Mr Steve, Ms Sarah Wong and Hannah Tan, the head prefect of Nobel International School. During the Sports Day, aside from Lau Wei Yiang, Danial Hafiz, the 2019 Slamdunk assistant captain, was present. As the houses  were introduced and while the proceedings were taking place, Lim Zi Xuan, the 2023 female house captain of Bullseye, was waving at Wei Yiang, along with Jolene Ooi  from Year 10. The opening ceremony begun with Mr Steve and Ms Sarah emceeing and introducing the Sports Day before Hannah Tan took over to begin the Sports Day by reciting the school pledge and  singing the national anthem and school song.

After the National Anthem, School Song and School Pledge, Ms Sarah Wong introduced the houses and their captains and asked them to cheer  before they were ushered back to their seats for competitions to begin. The 100m, 200m, 300m, 4X400m, 4X100m and 4X200m events took place alongside Long Jump events.

During the Sports  Day, Wei Yiang and another student from Year 8 cheered for Bullseye. Upon the displaying of the Chee Fooi Foon signage and Wei Yiang's own banner, which sparked interest among the Bullseye members, the Bullseye members turbocharged  and soared to victory. Teh Szi Wei, a student from Year 8 and from Touchdown, called Wei Yiang's name on Sports Day.

The Sports Day ended with a Teacher's Run and the Bullseye members  and all other houses gathered on the  field. This is the first Teacher's Run since 2017. The prize giving ceremony took place and the Bullseye captains were invited to receive the trophy before the students and teachers took a group photo.

Aftermath

Commemoration of Bullseye's victory and the five-year victory streak

Following the 2023 Sports Day Victory of Bullseye, the results were published online and a parade to celebrate the victory was held at SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft). During that time, the students chanted Lau Wei Yiang's name during the parade as he carried a Bullseye flag. The transporters blasted their horns and were led by Mr Liaw Soon Kee. The victory of Bullseye was praised by Chee Fooi Foon, the transporters, security personnel and parents of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft).

Criticism of  the Chee Fooi Foon antics

The Chee Fooi Foon antics were criticized by individuals who condemned the actions as disrespectful to the principal because the full name was displayed on the Sports Day. According to Ng Mee Kuen, the act of using the principal's name for the sake of Bullseye's victory was immoral as per Chinese culture. The act was defended by Lau Wei Yiang, saying that "without Chee Fooi Foon, Bullseye would have had lost the Sports Day and unable to commemorate the five-year victory streak.

Chee Fooi Foon was given Mandarin oranges on 8th February 2024 in recognition of  her support for Bullseye during the 2023 Sports Day, and for her to be honored during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Declaration of "public holiday" to celebrate the Bullseye victory

Following the victory  of Bullseye, Wei Yiang declared a mock public holiday in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya order to celebrate the Bullseye  victory. Given that the achievement of the five-year victory streak exceeded all expectations, it was important to celebrate the Bullseye victory and that it achieved a long-held ten-year project for  the Bullseye members. The purpose for  declaring the holidays was to celebrate the achievement of Bullseye's five year victory  streak, the 2023 Sports Day, Nobel Cup and Founder's Run victory, and "to thank everyone for contributing to Bullseye's victory and also to allow people to prepare for Christmas, Chinese New Year and the holy month of Ramadan."

The plans were criticized for investors  for causing a recession in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2024, and for being unnecessary given that  it does not affect the whole Malaysia who may not know  what Bullseye  is. However, the plans were welcomed by the  2024 Bullseye house captain, Aidan Ooi, who said it was good as it pushed the start of the school  year to a later  date as  "2nd January 2024 was too early for a school year".

Reactions by alumni and other individuals

Cancelled Sports Day plans

Lion Dance

During the 2023 Sports Day  planning phase, on 24th August  2023, Wei Yiang proposed a Lion Dance be  performed on Sports Day to motivate the  Bullseye members. However, this was not  executed due  to logistical complications. The plan was proposed to Jovyn Lim who received satisfaction.

Groundbreaking stone

On 17th December  2022,  Wei Yiang proposed a Chinese  groundbreaking stone in order to commemorate Bullseye's victory should it win the Sports Day. The plan was criticized by Melvyn Lim and Ng Mee Kuen as it looked  like a grave. Following that,  the plan was replaced with a logo in the shape of Hing Fook Soon's Chinese name that looked like a marathon runner crossing a finish line, but due to logistics, it cannot be carried  out.
