The 2016 Sports Day was the annual Sports Day of Nobel International School. It was held on 24th March 2016 at Panasonic Stadium Shah Alam. The Sports Day 2016 was won by Bullseye, which became the first house to win three consecutive Sports Days. It is also the final Sports Day of two graduating batches to achieve a Bullseye victory. This is Bullseye's best ever Sports Day performance to date, as of 2025.
For the first time in Nobel International School's history, a theme was given for Sports Day, titled 'Rise of the Empires'. It will be one of five Sports Days, all with themes, coordinated by Mr T. Narish Tamilarasan, who was named the Sports Day and Nobel Cup coordinator for the period of 2016-2020.
The 2016 Sports Day victory of Bullseye was the final Sports Day out of a series of three victory years; the other two being the 2014 and 2015 Sports Day. Until 2022, it was the longest Sports Day victory streak ever to occur in the history of Nobel International School, and until 2021, it was the longest victory streak ever to have existed in any competition, be it Sports Day, Founder's Run and Nobel Cup.
The 2016 Sports Day was the first Sports Day to include scores from the school's Founder's Run, which had its inaugural run that year.
Background
Bullseye had been successful in the 2014 Sports Day, and won the 2014 Nobel Cup, 2015 Sports Day, and 2015 Nobel Cup on the basis of Operation Speedrunner, a series of plans, proposals and tactics designed by Lau Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang to make Bullseye win. While initially puzzled by the plans, the plan's successful execution resulted in many Bullseye members lending their support for the project, from ordinary Bullseye members to house captains.
For the year 2016, the Bullseye members expressed support for the Operation Speedrunner to be carried over to the 2016 Sports Day in order to win the Sports Day. Since a revived and revised strategy from the Nobel Cup 2014 and Sports Day 2015 successfully resulted in Bullseye's 2015 Nobel Cup victory, the plan was naturally the choice to carry it over to win the 2016 Sports Day as well. The Bullseye members also anticipate victory in the 2016 Nobel Cup which was planned for end November 2016.
Mr. T. Narish Tamilarasan
T. Narish Tamilarasan, commonly referred to as Mr Narish, served as the Head of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Nobel International School. He was first assigned as the class teacher of 9N in 2015 and also as an ICT teacher in Nobel. Hailing from Seremban, Mr Narish begun his teaching career in the year 2008. His favorite team is Manchester United. He is well known for his enthusiastic responses.
In 2016, for the Sports Day, he was appointed as the Sports Coordinator to oversee the execution of Founder's Run, Sports Day and Nobel Cup. Subsequently, he was also appointed the Head of Student Leadership and Head of the Prefectorial Board.
Mr Narish coordinated the Sports Day from 2016 until his resignation in 2020. Currently, he is Deputy Principal and Head of Secondary at Sri KDU International School, Klang. The leadership of Mr Narish in the Sports Day, Nobel Cup and Founder's Run, appeared to combine an election, a festival, a protest rally and sports event all into one event. The events coordinated by Mr Narish hype up a politics and election-like festival among the students of Nobel International School.
Mr Narish is currently persuing a PhD in Information Technology at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor.
First Bullseye Sports House Meet
On Friday, 15th January 2016, Mr Narish made his first appearance as Sports Coordinator, announcing the first house meet for all houses, as well as launching the theme of Sports Day.
The meeting took place on Monday, 18th January 2016, and all students were told to make transport arrangements in order to participate in the house meet, which is normally held after school ends. It is compulsory for everyone to join. The meeting was presided over by Mr Matthew Koh, the house master for Bullseye, as well as Sabrina Qistina, the House Captain of Bullseye.
Sabrina made a speech,
“Bullseye members, if [last year’s] Nobel Cup was seen as a fight, for this year’s Sports Day, it would be WAR!”
The agenda of the day involved signing up for the various sports activities. Wei Yiang took the time to propose ideas to Sabrina Qistina, who had been excited of the plans.
Founder's Run 2016
The Founder's Run 2016 is the first edition of Nobel International School's Founder's Run, open only to Junior and Senior School students. The run was announced by Mr Narish on 1st February 2016 during the Monday morning assembly. The run took place on Friday, 26th February 2016 at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam.
The Founder's Run was conceived by Ms Lim Mee Wee who wanted a run to contribute funds for charity. The run was named after the founder of Nobel International School, Auntie Clarine, who is also the head of Fungates Superflow Foundation. Each student participating in the run will contribute 2 points to their sports house.
Nobel International School, prior to holding the Founder's Run, held a series of runs in the past, suh as the Elementary School's Family Marathon Day on 15th October 2012, the Elementary School's Fun Run on 1st February 2013, and the National Day Run for the Junior and Senior School on 30th August 2013. As such, there was a need for a unified run for a good cause. To solve the problem, the Founder's Run was created.
The champion house would be awarded 50 points and the route of the run has remained the same to this day. At the first edition, medals would be given to the Top 20 Finishers.
Wei Yiang had planned to win the Founder's Run. After bagging 5th in the Family Marathon Day and 2nd in the National Day Run, Wei Yiang had planned to upgrade this to the first place. Aside from that, Wei Yiang and Caleb singled out the top athletes from Bullseye for the run. The plan is for each Bullseye member to run, overtake the other runners, and hold position to the finish line. Wei Yiang will eventually place 13th for the race.
The warm up for the run was done by Mr Victor Kwong, the head of PE, and Ms Sylvia Taimin, another PE teacher.
The inaugural Founder's Run had a 5km and a 10km race. The 5km run was won by Edmond Chue and Krishanti Devaraj; the 10km run was won by Nieshaal Thambipillay and Hong En Eng. Sabrina Qistina remains the only Bullseye house captain to not run on Founder's Run due to a leg injury. The champion house of the Founder's Run was Touchdown. Bullseye had the highest registrations of the 2016 Founder's Run, with 349 points.

Bus service to Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam
During the 2016 Founder's Run, a bus service was given for students who were unable to head to Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam via their own transport. The students had to pay a fee of RM 50 for the bus service. The bus service will be from Nobel International School to Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam and back to school.
2016 Cheer Competition
The 2016 Cheer Competition was held on 17th February 2016, and the winner of the competition was Slamdunk, followed by Touchdown, Bullseye and Homerun.
During the Cheer Competition, Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang were given applause from the Bullseye members when leading the cheer competition, especially when being cheered on by Sean Mark and Jason Leing. When Wei Yiang planned to use a megaphone to cheer, he was told to keep the megaphone by Sabrina Qistina to avoid cheating prospects.

Wei Yiang's DIY Sports Day Banner
On 10th March 2016, Mr Aram S. Katz, the head of History at the time, announced a coursework for all Year 10 students. The task for the coursework was to create a poster on World War I promoting support for the war, which can be based on the Allies or the Axis Powers. The coursework was handed out by Mr Aram and Ms Visa, the teachers who were teaching History for Year 10. The coursework was based on the knowledge of World War I and the Treaty of Versailles.
Wei Yiang immediately proposed to Jason Leing and Sean Mark on replicating the World War I propaganda poster in the style of the same messaging, but for Bullseye. As the trio were taking History for IGCSE, it was understandable to all of them. Jason and Sean immediately gave the green light for the project, and the poster received support from all Bullseye members from Year 10 taking History. Jason Leing and Sean Mark were taught by Mr Aram, while Wei Yiang was being taught by Ms Visa.
After finishing the coursework, Wei Yiang designed the poster, with a lightsaber with the color of the other three houses slashing the Bullseye flag. The text on the poster read, "STOP THE FORCE, SAVE BULLSEYE. HOO-HAH!" thus referencing the intent and also a line from the cheer (Hoo-Hah). The words' "Stop the Force, Save Bullseye" were in remarks to the force of the other houses coming down on Bullseye to threaten the 2016 victory, and it was up to Bullseye members to save the 2016 victory.
The banner was accepted by all Bullseye members, symbolizing the formidable dominance of Bullseye. When it was shown to all Bullseye members and unveiled on the eve of Sports Day, on 23rd March 2016, all the Bullseye members cheered in excitement of the banner, especially the History students. Just before the project was about to take off, Sabrina Qistina banned the banner from the Sports Day, and Wei Yiang was told to leave it at home to avoid further repercussions from teachers or management staff, warning of risks that he will be banned from the marchpast. Wei Yiang eventually agreed to keep the banner at home.
Pre Sports Events for 2016 and Class System
2016 was the first year that the Pre Sports Events were introduced, following logistical issues during the 2015 Sports Day. The goal of the Pre Sports Events was to allow for more track and field events to be added to the Sports Day programme and allow people to contribute points to their sports house. However, the Pre Sports Events were held before Sports Day so that more time can be given for Sports Day activities, as well as for students competing in multiple events to rest before their next event. If all the sports activities took place on Sports Day, the events can't be completed in a single day; hence a staggered event was held.
Mr Narish also introduced a Class System for the Sports Day. The aim of the Class System was to place different individuals from different year levels based on their athletic performance, into one competition.
The Pre Sports Events were held during school hours on 2nd March for High Jump and Long Jump, 7th March for the 800m and other longer distance events like the 4X200m and 1500m, and the Telematch and Tug of War on 11th March 2016.
Planned National Day-style drone flypast on Sports Day
On 7th March 2016, Wei Yiang unveiled plans for a National Day style flag flypast during the Sports Day. The plan would have had involved using balloons or drones to carry the Bullseye flag above the stadium. Additional options also saw the introduction of mini blimps carrying the Bullseye symbol. The plans were unable to be carried out because of administrative, legal and technical constraints.
Subsequently, Wei Yiang also proposed using car horns to blare the horns in the event of a Bullseye victory, but this can't be practically carried out due to logistical and social constraints, thus resulting in the project being cancelled.
Telematch and Tug of War
On 11th March 2016, the Telematch and Tug of War competitions were held at the field near Nobel's old campus in Kelana Jaya. The Tug of War was held from 8:15 to 9am, while the Telematch was held from 9:15am to 12:00pm.
Prior to the start of the Telematch, Desmond Chan claimed that the Bullseye members had enlisted in corruption to pay the judges in the dance competition for the 2014 and 2015 Sports Day to award the dance championship for Bullseye. The claim was dismissed by Wei Yiang and Caleb, who argue that the management had a cap on how much money is being allowed to be brought by students to school and that it would be impossible for such a large amount to be paid to the judges.
When Caleb Chuang and Wei Yiang arrived on the Bullseye house line in the school hall during the morning assembly, they were greeted by the Bullseye members with a grand welcome, from Year 7 to 11, as well as all the Elementary School students. The Bullseye members screamed and shouted, which caught the attention of the teachers, including Mr Narish.
The Bullseye members won the Tug of War and then managed to get a victory in at least five out of the ten Telematch games. This caused the opponent houses to become jealous of Lau Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang. Prior to the Telematch, Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang enlisted a few people from Year 10 to join the Telematch together.
During the Telematch, Wei Yiang and Caleb cheered and shouted and were joined by the Bullseye members in aiding the team to victory.
Sports Day Rehearsal
The Sports Day Rehearsal took place on 8th March 2016 at the Panasonic Stadium Shah Alam. During this time, the plans for Bullseye were almost sabotaged by Rick Tan, whom Lau Wei Yiang denied to reveal the strategy.
During a rehearsal upon returning from the stadium, the Year 11s played volleyball and it caused the ball to bang onto a Year 1 classroom door on the ground floor.
Jeremy Yeap's Salute Controversy
During the 2016 Sports Day, each house was given the own opportunity to come up with extra moves. The moves for Bullseye, when doing the salute, initially looked like a Nazi salute, and Jeremy Yeap was told to adjust the hands' position to make sure it wasn't as such.
Actual Sports Day 2016
The Sports Day took place on 24th March 2016 at Panasonic Stadium Shah Alam. It ran overtime and ended at 8:30pm in the evening, making it the first time a Sports Day ended at night. It is the latest a Sports Day had ever ended until the 20th Anniversary Sports Day on 2nd July 2024.
The Sports Day opening ceremony took place with a welcoming delegation of all the marchers standing aside a route taken by Ms Bee Yong, Mr Chan Lik Hoong, Mr Tan Seng Kee and Auntie Clarine, while waving flags. Following the start of the opening ceremony, a torch relay was done by the house captains, Sabrina Qistina, Bryan George, Edmond Chue and Loo Shang. Then, each house will then march onto the field for the official proceedings.
The Sports pledge was led by Nieshaal Thambipillay, an MSSD medalist in tennis and the 10km champion of the 2016 Founder's Run. The Sports Boy was Sean Mark and the Sports Girl; Hong En Eng.
When Bullseye was announced as the champion house, the captains of all four houses held their flags onto Sabrina as she waved the trophy, and vuvuzelas were blared to celebrate the occasion. This is Bullseye's best performance in a Sports Day to date.
Goals for Sports Day 2016
The aim of Bullseye is to extend the current two-year victory streak, 2014, and 2015, to include a third year, 2016, in the Sports Day.
