The 2014 Sports Day was the 10th Annual Sports Day of Nobel International School, held in conjunction with Nobel International School's 10th Anniversary. The winner of the Sports Day was Bullseye.
Prior to 2025, this is the most recent Sports Day to be held at a venue other than Panasonic Stadium. The 2014 Sports Day was held at Stadium Petaling Jaya near the Kelana Jaya Park and Paradigm Mall. This is also the only Sports Day where lessons were held in the morning, and also the only schooling day so far to begin at 9am instead of 7:45am. The school explored this option due to the convenience of the location to the old location of Nobel International School.
The 2014 Sports Day was an instrumental event because it is the first ever victory of Bullseye in Nobel's Junior and Senior School sports events. At the same time, it is also the starting point and prelude to a much bigger, and more successful harbinger stories of Bullseye. This is the first of three Bullseye victory years, and the start of Bullseye's continued success.
Prelude
After Bullseye's loss in the 2013 Sports Day, Sean Lam Han motivated the Bullseye members with a motivational speech. “Ok, guys, we lost, but in your heart, you are winners yourselves!” he cried, with Dominic Chow expressing hope about Bullseye's 2014 Sports Day victory. For the 2014 Sports Day, the Bullseye members, formidable and strong as ever, were determined to make up for the loss of 2013. With the 2012 Elementary School Overall Score Victory for Bullseye still ringing in the minds of the then Year 8 students, a change was needed.
2014 House Captain Election and 2014 Chinese New Year Celebration
The Academic Year 2014 marks Nobel's 10th anniversary, and the management had planned to commemorate Sports Day at the Kelana Jaya Stadium for logistical reasons. The management were planning for a grand 10th Anniversary Concert in the middle of 2014, and Sports Day was to kick off the road to a grand 10th anniversary celebration.
The 2014 House Captain Election took place on 7th February 2014, which is the Chinese New Year celebration of Nobel International School. The celebration was supposed to take place at the morning assembly, but it was postponed to the Homeroom time of all classes in order to accommodate the House Captain Elections.
Because of Bullseye's performance in the 2013 Nobel Cup, the Bullseye members were determined to re-elect Brian Ong and Emily Liew, the Nobel Cup captains, as the Sports Day had a different election. Ms Evelyn Tay was unconvinced that the two candidates were not present but had humongous support, as Brian Ong was holidaying in Korea while Emily Liew was under the weather. Both were selected as house captain after the management team failed to convince Bullseye members to choose a different candidate.
The Chinese New Year celebration was held in the afternoon, and each class was given yee sang and the opportunity to toss the yee sang for Chinese New Year in the school hall.
Goals for Sports Day
The main aim of Bullseye was not only to win the Sports Day, but to get the title of Sports Boy and Dance Competition Winner. The Bullseye members also plan to win the Marchpast Competition and the Cheer Competition as well.
MH370 Incident
During the Sports Day preparation period, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished en route to Beijing. The Bullseye members gathered and prayed for the successful resolution of Flight MH370 during the school holiday practices.
The Day of Sports Day 2014
The Sports Day was held on 9th April 2014. Students were allowed to come to school and then be bussed over to the stadium after school ends. The school day begun at 9am instead of 7:45am. It is the only school day to begin late, and the only day where classes were held on Sports Day. Individuals participating in the Sports Day Opening Ceremony were bussed to the stadium at 2:00pm.
Rain threatened to pour on Sports Day 2014. It is the only Sports Day prior to 2024 to have a balloon letoff be used as the Opening Ceremony. The balloon letoff was initiated by Auntie Clarine, Puan Halimah, Ms Ingel, Ms Lim, Mr Chan Lik Hoong and Mr Tan Seng Kee. This is the second consecutive Sports Day to have dancers march into the stadium at the same time as the marchers. Dancers walked after all marchpast contingents entered the stadium, and they waved at the crowd and gathered behind the other houses' march contingents.
The 2014 Sports Day was the first Sports Day to involve return of alumni, and to involve vuvuzelas from Slamdunk.
The 2014 Sports Day ended with Bullseye winning the dance competition and the champion house, and Ryan Chan was given the title of Sports Boy for the year 2014. The Bullseye members ran a lap around the stadium, and a birthday celebration was held for Chia Yan Ying later in the evening.
Aftermath
The Bullseye Sports Day 2014 Victory kickstarted a longstanding tradition in Bullseye's quest for glory. The victory of Bullseye in the 2014 Nobel Cup, 2015 Sports Day, 2015 Nobel Cup, 2016 Sports Day, 2017 Nobel Cup and many other tournaments year upon year helped fuel the momentum for Bullseye's continued success year upon year.
