The 2015 Nobel Cup was the third edition of the Nobel Cup, after 2013 and 2014. It was played from 9th to 12th November 2015. The futsal and badminton games were held at the Sunway Xtreme Sports Park at Sunway South Quay, Bandar Sunway, on 9th November 2015; the basketball and futsal matches on 10th November 2015 at Nobel International School, and the Chess Competition on 12th November 2015, also at Nobel. All the tournaments were held from 9am to 1pm.
The 2015 Nobel Cup was won by Bullseye in a clean sweep, and is the last of two consecutive Nobel Cups won by Bullseye. This is the best performance of Bullseye in any Nobel Cup to date as of 2025. The victory of Bullseye in the 2015 Nobel Cup follows the success of Bullseye in the 2014 Sports Day, 2014 Nobel Cup and 2015 Sports Day.
The 2015 Nobel Cup was presided over by Sabrina Qistina, the House Captain of Bullseye and the first female house captain of Bullseye. Sabrina Qistina is also the head prefect of Nobel International School from 2015 to 2016.
Background
Bullseye had won the 2014 and 2015 Sports Day, and the 2014 Nobel Cup. Following a successful triple victory in these events, Bullseye members were excited for another Nobel Cup victory.
Bullseye first won the Sports Day in 2014 in a normal victory. Following the victory of Bullseye in Sports Day, Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang successfully drafted and proposed and convinced Bullseye members through their plans to win the 2014 Nobel Cup and 2015 Sports Day. The aim of this drive was to put Bullseye on the world map through the stunning victory records in Sports Day and Nobel Cup.
The success of the Bullseye victories in the 2014 Sports Day, 2014 Nobel Cup and 2015 Sports Day resulted in the hunger and passion of Bullseye members for more victories.
2017 Legacy Plan
From mid 2014, Wei Yiang had identified 2017 as the graduation of his cohort, the Class of 2017, from Nobel International School. Realizing that no time was left, many things and projects would need to be completed ahead of the November 2017 deadline, aside from missing his peers from high school.
One of the legacy plans for 2017 involved winning every single Sports Day and Nobel Cup up till 2017. The aim, in hindsight, would need to involve a total of four Sports Days (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017), as well as three Nobel Cups (2014, 2015 and 2016), as the 2017 Nobel Cup clashes with the 2017 IGCSE examination. Following the 2017 Sports Day, should a Bullseye victory be achieved and the plans succeed, the aim would be to distill the plans to the upcoming Bullseye members and committee, allowing them to continue the winning legacy near into the future. The main impetus, was to at least win every Sports Day until 2017 to prove the point of Bullseye's victory.
In order for the legacy plan to succeed, every single year would need to be won by Bullseye in both the Sports Day and the Nobel Cup. At the time, the Bullseye members were very excited for a victory, and the success of this victory would spark a new era and landscape for Bullseye.
2015/2016 House Captain Election
Lim Wei Ming, the previous house captain of Bullseye for the period of 2014/2015, had demonstrated considerable success in the Bullseye leadership. Wei Ming had been a serious, open-minded, hardline and determined captain. However, he had to sit the IGCSE examinations in October/November 2015, resulting in the need for a new house captain.
Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang knew from the start that a new house captain would be needed for Bullseye to achieve its victory goals. Hence, many Bullseye members, when interviewed by them, were in excitement for another victory. Unlike the same period in 2014, skeptic Bullseye members had now been convinced of another set of victories that it was possible to do so and it was entertaining and amusing for Bullseye. The Bullseye members now remain convinced of another victory and that multiple victories were for the good of Bullseye.
Thus, a captain with similar credibility as Wei Ming will need to be elected. On 10th August 2015, Sabrina Qistina was elected as the next house captain of Bullseye. Wei Yiang immediately had a meeting with Sabrina Qistina after the election to discuss the next plans for Bullseye. Sabrina Qistina reaffirmed the same expected characteristics she will hold like Wei Ming. Sabrina later recounted in an interview with the March 2016 edition of the school newsletter that the original intent was for her to be assistant captain, with Soon Yee Yang as captain. The votes soon flipped that around, with Soon Yee Yang being assistant captain instead.
Nobel Cup preparations
The preparations for Nobel Cup begun after Assessment 2 in 2015. Tryouts for the Nobel Cup were held after school. Jeremy Yeap was appointed the futsal captain, Tristan Lai the basketball captain, Carmen Kau the badminton captain, Krishanti Devaraj the netball captain, Ashley Fang the badminton captain and Alister Baptist the chess captain.
On 28th August, during the third futsal practice for Nobel Cup, Wei Yiang suggested that a chant and song be drafted for Bullseye to win the Nobel Cup and that it be inspired by the same types of protest songs used during the Bersih 4 protest, which was taking place in Kuala Lumpur at the time. However, Sabrina Qistina cautioned against the use of politics in sports events, and for politics to be separated from Sports Day and Nobel Cup.
In September 2015, due to the Checkpoint Trials as well as the 2015 Southeast Asian haze, Nobel Cup trainings had to be postponed for the health, safety and logistics of the situation. Nobel International School had to close due to the haze. The school was closed from 15th September to 16th September 2015, again on 5th October 2015 and again from 20th October to 22nd October 2015. The Cambridge Checkpoint Trial Exam was held from 9th to 11th September 2015, and the Cambridge Checkpoint Exam itself took place on 15th, 16th and 19th October 2015. At the same time, the Nobel Cup discussions had to be postponed as Caleb Chuang went to the United Kingdom to celebrate his sister's university convocation from 12th September to 6th October 2015.
The Nobel Cup was originally planned for end-October 2015, but was postponed to November to accommodate the postponed Final Year Examination. There was no postponement to the IGCSE Examination and also that Year 11s were barred from school activities due to the IGCSE exams.
Revisitation of Nobel Cup strategies
Following the conclusion of the Checkpoint Examination and Final Year Examination, Caleb Chuang and Lau Wei Yiang revisited the strategies for Nobel Cup together with some people from their Year 9 cohort. The duo planned to re-enhance the ball confusion strategy used for the 2014 Nobel Cup. The confusion strategy involved confusing the opponent with the passing of the balls to score a goal. Wei Yiang suggested throwing the ball off court as an emergency switch procedure to restart the game.
The strategies for the Nobel Cup 2014 games were further enhanced through consultation with the Bullseye players of the respective Nobel Cup sports. A chess game was introduced for the 2015 Nobel Cup. Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang discussed the chess strategies with Derek Yong, who had been part of the Chess CCA club and likes to play chess.
During one of the discussions, Jason Leing suggested winning the 2016 Sports Day should Bullseye emerge victorious in the 2015 Nobel Cup. When this suggestion was presented to Sabrina Qistina, she was overjoyed. Upon hearing the suggestion, Jason Leing suggested that we take the lead and win the 2016 Nobel Cup and 2017 Sports Day. He was quoted as saying, "We win every year until IGCSE," he said, and told Wei Yiang to propose this to the Bullseye members. Wei Yiang urged caution, saying that the 2015 Nobel Cup will need to be won first, and Ivyna said that this can be only discussed after the 2015 Nobel Cup and 2016 Sports Day were won by Bullseye. "By then, we will be Year 11 already, and we can decide," she was quoted as saying. Sean Mark openly supported the deal made by Jason Leing.
Nobel Cup competition
Wei Yiang was unable to be shortlisted for the futsal competition due to the lack of time constraints. To compensate for that, he and Caleb Chuang motivated every player for the Nobel Cup.
On 9th November, Wei Yiang gave pep talks to all the students from Bullseye heading to Sunway Extreme Park for the competition. Then, on 10th November, the basketball and netball matches saw Bullseye heading to the finals of the Nobel Cup before winning the tournament. Wei Yiang liaised with Carmen Kau during the netball match.
On the final day of competition, the chess competition took place, while a human sized-chess competition was held in the school hall.
2015 Nobel Cup Results
The 2015 Nobel Cup results were announced at 7:50am on Friday, 14th November 2015, during the morning assembly on the last day of school by Ms June. The result was the largest ever victory of Bullseye in the Nobel Cup. Bullseye managed to win every event except for the badminton competition.
Futsal: Bullseye
Netball: Bullseye
Basketball: Bullseye
Badminton: Homerun
Chess: Bullseye
CHAMPION HOUSE: BULLSEYE
The results were hailed by Lau Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang as the beacon of successful communication and collaboration with the Bullseye members who accepted the plans proposed by them. This lead to increased confidence of winning the Sports Day in 2016. Wei Yiang and Caleb Chuang partied in the class, but were met with protest from the members of other houses.
Goals for Nobel Cup 2015
The aim of Bullseye was to match the Sports Day dual victories by winning the 2015 Nobel Cup, so that Bullseye can have two Sports Days and Nobel Cup victories each.
Aftermath
Sabrina Qistina, on the last day of school, accepted further collaboration with Wei Yiang and his plans for Sports Day 2016. The plans were to be formulated in January 2016. The success of Bullseye had led to Bullseye winning two Sports Days, 2015 and 2016, and two Nobel Cups, 2014 and 2015, within a span of 16 months.
