The planned Sports Day banner of Lau Wei Yiang for 2020 [CANCELLED]

The 2020 Sports Day of Nobel International School was to be held on 27th March 2020. As part of the Sports Day 2020, Mr Narish, the coordinator for Sports Day since the year 2016, came up with a theme for every Sports Day. The theme for Sports Day 2020 was 'Endangered Animals'.

As 2020 is also a very symbolic year due to the attainment of Wawasan 2020 (Vision 2020), Vision 2020 aims to allow us to have the best eye vision, hence the rational of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad to craft out Vision 2020. As a new decade dawns upon us, the future of the world is nested in environmental protection as well as civic awareness to do better, to go beyond, and to be the best of our best, to serve the year 2020 and to be prepared for an unforgettable 2020. An excitement looms ahead in terms of sports and sustainability, and a victory of Bullseye would be the cherry on the cake.

In January 2020, wildfires erupted in Australia, threatening the safety and health of our planet. As part of a social awareness campaign and to kill two birds with one stone, Mr Narish introduced Endangered Animals as the theme for Sports Day 2020. Each house was given an endangered species as a mascot, and the animal assigned to Bullseye was the Ethiopian Wolf.

Lau Wei Yiang decided to continue the tradition of the design of  Sports Day banners, but  with a twist to incorporate the sustainable practices of  Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and TGA Corporation, his garden and entrepreneurial firm, into the banner. Given the continued sustainability practices of Green Canopy  Botanical Gardens as well as the successful efforts of TGA Corporation in delivering continued value  to customers, especially  during Nobelfest 2019, the plan was to continue from there in delivering sustainable statements and to promote  the sustainability efforts of Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and the TGA Corporation for 2020 via the Sports Day 2020.

With Sports Day 2020 being a true test of resilience for Bullseye to win a second successful year, the banner is enriched with symbolism; taking the Sustainable Development Goals of Sustainable Cities and Communities, Life on Land, Life Under Water, Climate Action as well as Responsible Consumption and Production to define the sustainability statement of Bullseye.

The design also features a raintree showcasing the botanical history of Malaysia. Raintrees are known for their large shade and were planted by the British during their administration of Malaya. Combined  with the Ethiopian Wolf and  the tagline, "A victory for Bullseye, A Sustainable Future", the banner showcases the sustainability statement of Bullseye with an aim to inspire the rest of Nobel to do more in sustainability. There were also plans to feature recycled innovations and the success of Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and TGA Corporation at the Sports Day. The banner was sponsored and supported by the staff and members of Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and TGA Corporation with the determination to continue the legacy left on from Nobelfest  2019.

Sadly, due to the impact of COVID-19, the sustainability plans cannot be executed due to the induced cancellation of Sports Day 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic eventually inspired other banner designs for Sports Day as well as the eventual incorporation of sustainability practices in TGA Corporation, Green Canopy Botanical Gardens as well as Nobel's adoption of SDG practices in January 2025.

The walkover win of Bullseye in 2020 successfully  led to the completion of Bullseye's second victory streak from 2019 to 2023, and the success of Bullseye in completing eight consecutive years of Founder's Run victories.
