[EXTRA] Bullseye 2020 Banner with TGA Corporation logo

We would like to ractify the abnormaly by presenting a second version of WY's 2020 banner with the TGA Corporation logo.

TGA Corporation was founded by Lau Wei Yiang on May 31, 2017 and offers services in gardening, agriculture, recycling and forestry. The company has agricultural headquarters in Puchong, Selangor, and is mainly selling vegetables. The company expanded to include recycling services and upcycling services and runs the Green Canopy Botanical Gardens.

TGA Corporation participated in Nobelfest 2019 through vegetable sales. For Sports Day 2020, TGA Corporation had planned to participate in Sports Day 2020 through the showcase of the sustainability efforts of the company and to continue on with what was started in Nobelfest 2019.

Once again, we want to make a big thank you to the sponsors and the support of the staff of TGA Corporation for their efforts.  This is a second version of Bullseye's 2020 banner with the TGA Corporation ident.

The planned Sports Day banner of Lau Wei Yiang for 2020 [CANCELLED]

The 2020 Sports Day of Nobel International School was to be held on 27th March 2020. As part of the Sports Day 2020, Mr Narish, the coordinator for Sports Day since the year 2016, came up with a theme for every Sports Day. The theme for Sports Day 2020 was 'Endangered Animals'.

As 2020 is also a very symbolic year due to the attainment of Wawasan 2020 (Vision 2020), Vision 2020 aims to allow us to have the best eye vision, hence the rational of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad to craft out Vision 2020. As a new decade dawns upon us, the future of the world is nested in environmental protection as well as civic awareness to do better, to go beyond, and to be the best of our best, to serve the year 2020 and to be prepared for an unforgettable 2020. An excitement looms ahead in terms of sports and sustainability, and a victory of Bullseye would be the cherry on the cake.

In January 2020, wildfires erupted in Australia, threatening the safety and health of our planet. As part of a social awareness campaign and to kill two birds with one stone, Mr Narish introduced Endangered Animals as the theme for Sports Day 2020. Each house was given an endangered species as a mascot, and the animal assigned to Bullseye was the Ethiopian Wolf.

Lau Wei Yiang decided to continue the tradition of the design of  Sports Day banners, but  with a twist to incorporate the sustainable practices of  Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and TGA Corporation, his garden and entrepreneurial firm, into the banner. Given the continued sustainability practices of Green Canopy  Botanical Gardens as well as the successful efforts of TGA Corporation in delivering continued value  to customers, especially  during Nobelfest 2019, the plan was to continue from there in delivering sustainable statements and to promote  the sustainability efforts of Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and the TGA Corporation for 2020 via the Sports Day 2020.

With Sports Day 2020 being a true test of resilience for Bullseye to win a second successful year, the banner is enriched with symbolism; taking the Sustainable Development Goals of Sustainable Cities and Communities, Life on Land, Life Under Water, Climate Action as well as Responsible Consumption and Production to define the sustainability statement of Bullseye.

The design also features a raintree showcasing the botanical history of Malaysia. Raintrees are known for their large shade and were planted by the British during their administration of Malaya. Combined  with the Ethiopian Wolf and  the tagline, "A victory for Bullseye, A Sustainable Future", the banner showcases the sustainability statement of Bullseye with an aim to inspire the rest of Nobel to do more in sustainability. There were also plans to feature recycled innovations and the success of Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and TGA Corporation at the Sports Day. The banner was sponsored and supported by the staff and members of Green Canopy Botanical Gardens and TGA Corporation with the determination to continue the legacy left on from Nobelfest  2019.

Sadly, due to the impact of COVID-19, the sustainability plans cannot be executed due to the induced cancellation of Sports Day 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic eventually inspired other banner designs for Sports Day as well as the eventual incorporation of sustainability practices in TGA Corporation, Green Canopy Botanical Gardens as well as Nobel's adoption of SDG practices in January 2025.

The walkover win of Bullseye in 2020 successfully  led to the completion of Bullseye's second victory streak from 2019 to 2023, and the success of Bullseye in completing eight consecutive years of Founder's Run victories.

[ARCHIVE] Founder's Run 2025 Statement.

Today, 14th March 2025, is the start of 29 days of competition. We are kicking off the 10th Annual Founder's Run.

Writing this as a three-time champion of Founder's Run (2017, 2018, 2019), as well as the 10th place winner of the Twincity Marathon 2024's 42.195km category, I would like to wish everyone the very best for the Founder's Run. While Nobellians are gearing up for the Founder's Run, we are gearing up on our side for the ultimate race of the year; the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM).

The Founder's Run and the KLSCM are two very different ball games. While the Founder's Run is a 5km race around a loop in Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, the KLSCM involves the closure of multiple roads, trails and highways to provide a safe marathon course over 26.2 miles of asphalt. The marathon distance is recognized by World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, and has a championship, the Abbott World Marathon Majors, which is the English Premier League or Thomas Cup for marathons.

This year, we are marking the tenth edition of a legacy that begun in 2016. As 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the Founder's Run, we want to remember the perseverance, determination, grit and solidarity of the runners of the Founder's Run. We want to recognize and commemorate the spirit and dedication of contributing to the Fungates Superflow Foundation. Running is an easy sport and it can be done anywhere with just a pair of shoes and without the need for equipment or facilities.

The Founder's Run pays tribute to Ms Clarine Chun, the Founding Director and founder of Nobel International School. It is with great enthusiasm and of course, confidence that I convey this proposal to the school. Since we are coming to mark the 10th anniversary of the Founder's Run next year, as well as the 10th edition of the Founder's Run in 29 days, it will be great to have Auntie Clarine sign up for a full marathon race. I believe that it is wonderful to have Auntie Clarine do so and I believe that she should do so, as it will mark the true meaning of the Founder's Run and encourage the Fungates team to scout for new sources of revenue to help the needy. Auntie Clarine completing a 42km race will unleash the true meaning of the Founder's Run, as the Founder of Nobel International School would be a role model, both in Character Transformation as well as running, and it will inspire people to push their limits and demonstrate the core values of Nobel International School. And it will be great that to boost confidence, maybe you, Mr Meshach, as well as Mr Lew, Ms Praveen, Ms Ingel, Ms Colleen, Mr Loh, Mr Chan and Ms Jean would be able to sign up for the same marathon as Auntie Clarine to boost confidence.

Nobel International School led an expedition of Year 10 and 11 students in November and December 2013 to scale Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Malaysia. The management team accompanying Auntie Clarine to finish the 42km marathon would be truly a historic feat to mark the 10th edition and 10th anniversary of the Founder's Run, and hopefully, it can be considered and discussed. The team can sign up for KLSCM if you want some confidence, as I am planning to take part soon.

We wish all the runners of the Founder's Run the very best as they clock their mileage in the Virtual Run and work towards improving their fitness for the physical run.

Sustainable Development Goals

A hallmark for environmental protection and human progress

The Sustainable Development  Goals is a network of 17 goals aimed at achieving sustainable development in the fields of environment, social and governance (ESG). The SDGs were launched on 7th October 2015 and is a key framework in guiding global sustainable development initiatives, with the target of achieving all 17 goals by the year 2030. It is a major hallmark under the Agenda 2030 framework.

Nobel started adopting the Sustainable Development Goals beginning from January 2025 in an effort to instill practices in the goals. An initiative led by Ms Praveen Shadaan, Head of Curriculum of Nobel International School, the aim is to adopt the goal in daily activities such as food wastage, energy conservation and quality education. A Maker's Fair based on the SDG themes is planned for the middle of 2025.

Each classroom in Nobel is fitted with a SDG sign printed out and provided by the management of Nobel to be accessible for the benefit of students.

The sustainable development goals are:

  1. No Poverty
  2. Zero Hunger
  3. Good Health and Wellbeing
  4. Quality Education
  5. Gender Equality
  6. Clean Water and Sanitation
  7. Affordable and Clean Energy
  8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
  9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  10. Reduced Inequalities
  11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
  12. Responsible Consumption and Production
  13. Climate Action
  14. Life below Water
  15. Life on Land
  16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
  17. Partnerships for the Goals

2026 Sports Day: Return to Panasonic or Retain at Bukit Jalil?

With the 2025 Sports Day behind us, attention is now turning to the 2026 Sports Day. Questions would be held on whether Sports Day will be held at Bukit Jalil or a return to Panasonic Stadium Shah Alam.

Nobel cannot hold a combined Sports Day for the Elementary and Junior and Senior School at the Panasonic Stadium in 2026 due to the increased size of students studying at Nobel. Back in 2014, according to the school newsletter, The Excalibur, the size of the entire Junior and Senior School cohort is at a total of 600 students, with five classes per year level (N, O, B, E, L). The student population for the Junior and Senior School in 2025 is double that number, at around 1200 students with a total of nine classes per year level, namely Wholesome, Happy, Courageous, Empathetic, Grateful, Resilient, Insightful, Noble, Mindful, Thoughtful and Sincere. The field size of 600 students is now limited to the total of only 3 year levels in Nobel International School. In 2008, the total student population for the Elementary School was also 600, with around 400 Junior and Senior School students. The population total for Nobel in 2025 is now around twice that of 2008, the very first year Nobel begun to use the Panasonic Stadium for sports events.

If Nobel were to hold a combined Sports Day, it will need to re-rent the Bukit Jalil Stadium again for 2026. This is because the facilities at Bukit Jalil are in tip-top condition and easy to access, due to an LRT station at the stadium complex. The large roofs effectively mitigated the rainy weather at Bukit Jalil and allowed sports events to continue despite the rainy weather. However, should Nobel insist on holding Panasonic Stadium sports events, the Sports Day for the Junior and Senior School as well as the Elementary School will have to be split. The carpark at Bukit Jalil is bigger. The stadium is more spacious and the atmosphere much better than the Panasonic Stadium. The only other time Nobel held a Sports Day outside of Panasonic Stadium was in 2014, at the Stadium Petaling Jaya next to Kelana Jaya Park, but the facilities there weren't good either.

Holding a combined Sports Day would reduce costs and unify the school. At the same time, it will also allow for easier preparation of logistics. The only major obstacle to this is the cost of holding the Sports Day at Bukit Jalil.

The Sports Day is held at Bukit Jalil this year in order to take advantage of the free booking period for a Sports Day, launched in 2023 by Hannah Yeoh, the Minister of Youth and Sports, to allow schools to rent the stadium for free in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of the Kuala Lumpur Sports City, the stadium complex consisting of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, National Hockey Stadium, National Aquatics Center, Axiata Arena and various other venues such as the National Sports Institute and the Bukit Jalil Sports School. The free booking period will end in September 2025, thus rendering the stadium useless.

If Nobel International School continues to choose the Bukit Jalil National Stadium for  future Sports Days, certain modifications and alterations will need to be made to our banner and props for the Sports Day as certain parties had voiced concerns over the potential safety and security risks caused by them. This can be done by modifying and reducing the size of the banner and the number of props to be used on Sports Day, as Nobel had signed a contract with the stadium when renting the stadium premises for the Sports Day 2025, which limited the amount of stuff that spectators can bring. To make matters worst, even if we brought our banner which is quite big, there is no space to hang the banner since there is a large fence and drain blocking the view of the banner to the athletes, which isn't the case at Panasonic Stadium.

On one hand, Nobel might return to Panasonic Stadium as it is a familiar venue and that the rental cost is lower. However, Nobel might want to continue to rent Bukit Jalil as the venue despite the high cost as the venue is more safe and secure than the Panasonic Stadium. Therefore, some circumstances might need to be held if the Sports Day is held at either venue.

The next concern that should be raised is the segregation of students and alumni on Sports Day.

Since 2014, when we started our journey to make Bullseye win and win again, we were still students in Nobel International School. This made it easier to plan, communicate, discuss and cheer with the students. However, what needs to be noted is that all students currently with Nobel will leave the school. Therefore, in order to continue to make Bullseye win in order to meet the growing  demand for Bullseye victories, certain circumstances will need to be considered in order to unite the Bullseye members on either side, be it students or alumni.

On Sports Day, alumni are ushered to the parents' row to view the Sports Day. This will not be concerning if the parents' stand is next to Bullseye, as it was the case in 2019 and 2023. However, if the Bullseye and parents' stand are segregated by another house between it (2024 by Touchdown and 2025 by Slamdunk), this may be very concerning, as one will need to pass through another house to get to the Bullseye stand. This may also distract and disturb other houses. Certain things may need to be sorted out for the Sports Day before the dawn of 2026. But the biggest concern should not be the arrangement on Sports Day but the communication between us and the Bullseye members.

Currently, it is very difficult to communicate both online and offline. Everyone in Nobel International School who uses Instagram will have a privacy feature added to their account because they are under 18. While privacy is greatly respected, this may be a problem when communicating together for the Sports Day. Hence, if anyone from Bullseye can update us, that will be great. Secondly, even if we were to communicate physically, the security policy in Nobel is quite strict. The security people will watch us outside of school. So, in such a situation, it is difficult to communicate with them when we are presumed to be suspicious. The school authorities can purposely use this barrier to subdue the power of Bullseye, so it should be raised with great concern.

What is your thought on this?

SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft) Merentas Desa

Raising awareness through running events

School holds cross country run as an educational tool to hone students' awareness on managing skills in cross country events

Puchong: On Friday, 25th April 2025, SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft) held a cross country race for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students from 7:30am to 10:30am. The event involved a 1.5km race course that wind its way around the school premises.

Runners were flagged off by the members of Harcroft's Board of Directors. A series of ten checkpoints were manned by teachers to guide the students during the run. The weather was cool and bright that morning, allowing students to complete the course without any difficulties. The Year 5 students were flagged off first, followed by Year 4 and Year 6 students. The event was witnessed by Dr. Kow Cheong Wei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft), who took time off to oversee the run.

Dr Kow pointed out that cross-country running is a learning process that enhances the awareness of crisis, and that not only is it necessary to pay attention to safety, but also to know how to get rid of runners without getting hurt and strive for a good result.

"Today's cross-country runs organized by schools within the city limits are no longer the traditional race events through the forest and through the mud," he said.

“Today, cross-country running routes in urban schools are mostly located on asphalt roads, and the concept and mindset of cross-country has changed. Hence, for students, understanding the meaning behind the event still has its positive effects and significant results," Dr Kow added, saying that as urbanization grows, more roads are used for cross country events and major marathons across the world. As such, he opined that runners must adapt to the challenges of running in urban areas, and that this can be done with proper training.

Dr Kow Cheong Wei made the remarks at the prize-giving ceremony after presiding over the flag-off ceremony for the 2025 SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft) Cross Country Championship. In attendance were school headmistress Kuan Muk Lang, Parent Teacher Association chairman Mr Aaron Lee and a number of board members and PTA managers.

Dr Kow proposed that the school authorities could let the participating students know in advance certain race information, such as the length of the race route and the terrain characteristics of the uphill and downhill courses, and other elements, so that they could conduct analytical studies and flexibly use their mathematical and scientific knowledge from them, in addition to race training.

"This is so that it can help students to plan for the race using a series of characteristics and key points, such as using the field of mathematics to calculate speed, average time and plan the best strategy," said Dr Kow, adding that students will be able to experience first-hand their own health, physical strength and endurance, and being able to complete the course through real-life action within their own capabilities."

Dr Kow cited marathons around the world, including the 42-kilometer Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon, which will be held in October, as events that test the strength and mental capabilities of all runners. He gave the example of how athletes from Kenya, who excel in marathons, use their strength and skills to do well in marathons.

"Kenya is one good example of how runners can do well. Many athletes are Kenyan because they train on uneven ground and tough conditions," he added, saying that preparation can be key to completing a race. Dr Kow said that while a marathon is uncomparable to a cross country event like that at SJKC Shin Cheng (Harcroft), he added that the lessons learnt from long distance runners in the 42km-long marathon can be applied to a simple school cross country race.

At the prize giving ceremony, Dr Kow handed out medals to the winners of the race. The boys' and girls' race was won by a series of students from Year 6M, and several athletic and sports-capable students received awards.

Dr Kow also spent time talking with Lau Wei Yiang, a local marathon runner who will be running his third marathon at the KL Standard Chartered Marathon in October. Wei Yiang had won 10th place in the Twincity Marathon in April last year but was forced to walk the remaining 10km of the KL Standard Chartered Marathon last year due to head dizziness. Wei Yiang is aiming to break his personal best of 3:21:40 hours, achieved at the Twincity Marathon last year.
