Bullseye Must WIN
BULLSEYE 2025 FAQ
Why must Bullseye win in the year 2025?
This is a perfect opportunity for the Bullseye members to see what defined 2024. Should 2024 be defined as a "scrapegoat year" or should it be defined as the downfall of Bullseye. It is Bullseye's opportunity to make a comeback from its loss during the 20th Anniversary Sports Day in 2024 and to also celebrate the long-delayed 10th anniversary victory celebrations of Bullseye.
A "scrapegoat year" is considered a year which Bullseye lost that is bordered by two or more victory years. For example, Bullseye has won the years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 but lost the year 2024. Should Bullseye win the years 2025 and 2026, then 2024 shall become the scrapegoat year. The term "scrapegoat" refers to a process in which people blame something or somebody for all the wrong reasons. If Bullseye wins 2025 (or 2026), we can use the opportunity to blame whatever happened in 2024 for the loss of Bullseye that year, and we can say that if whatever happened in 2024 did not happen, Bullseye would have won.
The 20th Anniversary Sports Day was a very significant milestone for both Nobel International School as well as Bullseye. For the context, the namesake of Nobel International School's 20th Anniversary Sports Day marks the 20th Anniversary of Nobel International School's establishment as Sekolah Sri Nobel, before it turned into an international school in 2012. At the same time, it also marks the 10th Anniversary of Bullseye's first ever Sports Day victory on 9th April 2014, and the first ever Nobel Cup victory on 11th and 12th November 2014. The Nobel Cup is a sports tournament comprising of team sports like basketball, football or captain ball which are not contested during Sports Day. Additionally, Bullseye holds the victories of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Sports Days, the 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023 Nobel Cups, as well as every single Founder's Run since 2018.
Why is it necessary for Bullseye to win the year 2025?
If Bullseye loses the 2025 Sports Day, attention and publicity will be shifted away from Bullseye to the other sports houses. When attention is shifted away to the other houses, it will cause the legacy of Bullseye to degrade and disappear, especially one which is shaped by over ten years of progress. Given the multiple victories over the last ten years, it is very important for Bullseye to stay relevant, or else it will fade away into the landscape, losing to up-and coming opponent houses like Slamdunk. As the 10th Anniversary of Bullseye's victories are still relevant, we need to celebrate it before it is too late. With Bullseye continuing to win, it will inspire more people in Bullseye to do better, to do well, and to continue the momentum of winning.
This is what the first Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, aspired to do. He said that Singapore must be the best in everything in order to attract people to visit, do business and invest in Singapore. Otherwise, Singapore would become a useless country. And so do the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohamad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who wanted Dubai to have the world's tallest building, world's longest automatic train line, world's largest man made island and the world's largest international airport, which is among a few of record breaking feats to entice visitors to visit Dubai, which was previously a city not known to everyone.
What are the challenges for Bullseye to win the year 2025?
The first challenge of a Bullseye victory in the year 2025 is an early Sports Day. This year's Sports Day is taking place on 27th February 2025. Hence, it will be very difficult to organize everyone, especially the incoming Year 7 students and the new students entering Nobel International School. This is because the incoming students may not know the true history and momentum of Bullseye.
The second challenge that is faced by Bullseye is the awareness of the history of Bullseye. We are not talking about a history that is one to five years old, but twelve years in the making. As no one knows a history that long, it is the purpose of this website to lay out the history of Bullseye. If everyone knows the history of Bullseye and how long Bullseye has won, everyone in Bullseye will be very excited to win again.
Rounding up the third factor is the influence of the management. The management, other than alumni of Nobel International School, is the only people in Nobel who knows the history of Bullseye. The only other person currently working for Nobel who knows it all is Mr Ryan Chan, who was previously a student of Nobel from 2006 to 2015 and joined the school as a PE teacher in 2024. Because the management knows that Bullseye has won for so many years, they are eager to get Bullseye to lose and to give other houses a chance. As more Bullseye victories emerge, the case of a Bullseye victory will continue to grow on the context of Bullseye. But it is irritating the management team, who do not want Bullseye to continue winning and can do anything they can, from tweaking the Sports Day format to barring people from supporting Bullseye, in order to ensure that Bullseye lost the Sports Day. This was first initiated in 2017, causing Bullseye to lose the Sports Day to Touchdown by one point. In this case, Bullseye got 648 points and Touchdown got 649 points.
These challenges are great challenges, but it requires the support, dedication and participation of every single Bullseye member in order to make Bullseye's 2025 Sports Day Victory possible. 2024 was to be a 'Kongsi Raya' style celebration where the 20th Anniversary of Nobel and the 10th Anniversary of Bullseye's wins were celebrated. Kongsi Raya (also known as Gong Xi Raya) is a phenomenon where Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri fall in the same week and a day apart from each other. This phenomenon will happen in 2029 and last occurred in 1998. This is because the Islamic calendar is 11 days shorter than the Gregorian Calendar which is the normal calendar, hence resulting in this phenomenon. The same phenomenon for Deepavali and Hari Raya Aidilfitri clashing is 'DeepaRaya', which last happened in 2006 and 2007. The name 'Kongsi Raya' is translated to "shared celebration" in the Malay language and is also remniscent of the 'Gong Xi' phrase in 'Gong Xi Fa Cai', the traditional greeting used to celebrate Chinese New Year. The Kongsi Raya version of Nobel and Bullseye's anniversaries clashing together was due to occur twice; the previous version occurred in 2022, to celebrate 10 years since Nobel turned into an international school, which resulted in the formation of Bullseye.
What will happen after a potential 2025 Bullseye Sports Day victory?
If Bullseye wins the 2025 Sports Day, it will be a feeling as if the victory streak from 2019 never ended. This is because when Bullseye lost the 2024 Sports Day, everyone had difficulties processing it while looking at the 2023 victory. This made the feeling of victory still strong. And if Bullseye won the 2025 Sports Day, which people look forward to it, it may look like as if Bullseye's victory streak never ended. It was not easy to try to win the remaining four years of Bullseye's five-year victory streak, as the management posed challenges to try and block the Bullseye victory if we were to beat all the other houses. But if Bullseye wins the 2025 Sports Day, it will be considered a successful comeback, and the next part of the story is to win the 2025 Founder's Run. More details on that will be put later.
On four occasions, Bullseye has won every competition in Nobel International School, namely the Nobel Cup, Founder's Run (established in 2016) and Sports Day in 2014, 2015, 2022 and 2023 respectively. Additionally, it has won either one of these three competitions since 2014 up till 2024, making it a total of eleven calendar years. As long as Bullseye wins either the Sports Day, Founder's Run or Nobel Cup, we complete a traditional Chinese zodiac of twelve calendar years which begun in the year of the horse in 2014 and goes up to the year of the snake in 2025. Let's hope to make 2025 the fifth occasion in which Bullseye won all the major events, ok?
Why is Sports Day held at the beginning of 2025, in February? Why not March/April or June/July?
In September 2024, the management begun planning the academic calendar for the year 2025 after taking into account the challenges faced in the last four years due to COVID-19, as well as the pre-COVID era. The management team were divided over how to structure certain events, but the Sports Day was on the top of the management's agenda, given that it is the biggest event in Nobel International School and a must-do for every Year 11 student, as the event is the pinnacle of all achievements by every graduating batch.
Nobel International School's Sports Day is traditionally held in March and April prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The last truly pre-COVID Sports Day was held on 22nd March 2019, while the Sports Day 2020 was scheduled for 27th March 2020. Athletics Day 2021 was scheduled for 14th April 2021, but had to be put on hold due to the pandemic. It was meant as a temporary solution given the state of the pandemic at the time, and at the same time, it was to be held if the COVID-19 cases decreased during the heightened state of Malaysia's movement control order restrictions.
In 2022, Nobel held sports activities in the month of June, along with a KS4 Nobel Cup on 15th July 2022 and a KS3 Nobel Cup on 22nd November 2022, which also included Year 10 students. Then, in 2023, upon the announcement of the 2023 calendar, Sports Day was scheduled for June 2023 before being postponed due to the heatwave to 20th November 2023. Then, in 2024, Sports Day was once again scheduled for Saturday, 29th June 2024 before being moved to Tuesday, 2nd July 2024. This shows the management's initial intentions to have Sports Day in June; an intention that was unsuccessfully attempted in 2012.
The main reason for Nobel postponing the Sports Day to June of 2022, 2023 and 2024 was due to complications involving the Hari Raya celebration and the month of Ramadan, where Muslims fast. Hence, it would not be fair if Muslims had to partake in the Sports Day activities given the physical demands of the holy month of Ramadan, which occurs a month before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The start of Ramadan since the pandemic started was 4th May 2019, 23rd April 2020, 13th April 2021, 3rd April 2022, 20th March 2023, 10th March 2024 and 1st March 2025, while the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri since then was 4th June 2019, 24th May 2020, 13th May 2021, 2nd May 2022, 22nd April 2023, 10th April 2024 and 31st March 2025. The fasting month is normally a month of holding one's meal in accordance with the Five Pillars of Islam. As fasting consumes a lot of energy, it would be impractical to hold Sports Day at the certain time where people are fasting. Hence, since 2022, given the dates of Ramadan and Aidilfitri, the Sports Day was moved to the month of June.
While this takes stress off Muslims fasting for Ramadan, the logistical complications come in given the IGCSE examinations that are being held in the May/June series and the October/November series. This would affect preparations for the IGCSE examinations and it would be affecting Nobel's IGCSE success story. Given that Nobel International School's students had been excelling in IGCSE since 2013, and having been awarded Top in the World for every year since 2014, the school, like Bullseye, wants to continue the streak of successes. Only two subjects, namely Malay and Mandarin, are offered examinations for IGCSE only the May/June series while the rest of the IGCSE exams were held in the October/November examination series. It would be very complicated for Sports Day preparations to interfere with those examination series, and hence, a move to March/April was considered alongside keeping the Sports Day in June/July. A Sports Day in April, despite being held after Hari Raya, would still disadvantage Muslim students; hence the transition of Sports Day to February. The previous Sports Day which was the earliest in Nobel International School's history was the 2010 Sports Day on 5th March 2010.
Nobel International School used to have multiple events in the school calendar, at most at 20 events excluding the major camps, Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM), Field Trips and examinations. However, in recent years, Nobel International School attempts to transition towards an academic-centric landscape, axing many events in the process. The only major event in the year is the Sports Day, but since the management wants students to have fun, downsizing was not considered for Sports Day to avoid a dull year. Aside from Sports Day, the other major event on the calendar is the Founder's Run, an annual 5km run held to raise funds for Fungates Superflow Foundation. The move of Sports Day to February is considered a bold move to not just focus the entire year on academics and away from distractions, but also indirectly kill Bullseye's victory with a downsized Sports Day preparation time.
How is the new schedule bound to affect the standings of Bullseye during Sports Day?
Previously, it was a norm for Nobel Cup and Founder's Run to have scores add up to the total tally for Bullseye in the Sports Day, which normally occurs in March. Nobel Cup is normally held in November of the preceding year before Sports Day; a norm set by Mr Narish, while Founder's Run, which was originally scheduled for February annually, is brought to the month of April. This can affect the standings for Sports Day.
Bullseye has depended on Founder's Run and Nobel Cup to ensure that it wins. Given that these events had delivered a resounding boost for Bullseye in the points standings, it was very easy for Bullseye to win Sports Day 2019, Sports Day 2020, the overall scores for 2021 and 2022, as well as Sports Day 2023. The Founder's Run caused Bullseye to briefly do well in Sports Day 2024, making the result competitive before it lost to Touchdown.
The scores for the 20th Anniversary Sports Day were inflated and this caused Touchdown to do well. Hence, for 2025, to make it easier to manage Sports Day, all form of external interference, namely the Founder's Run and Nobel Cup, were eliminated from the Sports Day tally so that it makes the Sports Day an easy target for all houses, especially Touchdown, Homerun and Slamdunk, who were doing well during the 20th Anniversary Sports Day. Without those external sources for points, Bullseye will need to depend on its track-and-field athletes, who comprise a minority of all members, to deliver the points for Bullseye. It also has to depend on the marchpast, dance and banner teams to deliver convincing results; a competition which is easily rigged by members of the management.
How can Bullseye win the Sports Day 2025 based on the current situation?
In order for Bullseye to win Sports Day 2025, Bullseye would need to occupy the top two places on the podium for Sports Day in the running events. These running events take place on 19th February which is the Pre Sports Day Rehearsal and on the Sports Day itself on 27th February.
There are a total of 48 competitions spread across eight running events, namely the 100m, 200m, 4X100m, 4X200m, 400m, 4X400m, 800m and 1500m. This is because we have three categories based on class as well as to compensate for two genders. Bullseye at most must have at least one second place winner in each of the competitions to win a substantial amount of points, and it must have at least three sets of first and second place consecutive podium winners in each competition to at least reach 24 out of 48 slots. Bullseye can choose to repeat this for another 16 slots, or to win first and third in the remaining competitions to ensure the Bullseye victory. The runners need to focus on speed training and strength training, and must savour crow's feet soup as recommended by Mr Thomas, to ensure the victory. This soup is sponsored by Uganda and was instrumental in making Ugandan athletes win Olympic competitions. Bullseye members can purchase the crow's feet soup at the shoplots in Damansara Jaya or at the Atria Shopping Gallery, or they can purchase them at any night market stalls nationwide.
For the high jump, long jump and shot putt competitions, Bullseye must choose at least ten best jumpers for the high jump and long jump. The high jumpers must go over the bar while the long jumpers must leap forward and must be light enough. Shot putt athletes must have the experience of lifting heavy things to guarantee a victory. Bullseye needs to win six winners from each individual competition (both male and female) to win the competition. This means having one winner from each category, and all must be first place winners.
For the banner competition, Bullseye members must put a picture of Charles Muntz on the banner of Bullseye. They must use the themes from the movie 'Up' as it closely resembles Mr Chan Lik Hoong, and also put a picture of a bird from the movie named Kevin, but in a cage as requested by Mr Thomas. This is to allow people to be motivated by Mr Chan in support of the Bullseye victory. The bird would resemble a crow as it motivates people to do well, and that crows, despite being disgusting for their diseases, are actually the most beautiful animals in the world. It also recalls black athletes winning medals at the Olympic Games, from Usain Bolt to Eliud Kipchoge. They must also put a lot of red and yellow colors and make the characters as funny as possible in order to win points from the judges.
For the dance competition, the Bullseye members must demonstrate traditional Chinese martial arts moves like tai chi or kung fu in order to win points from the judges, given that the Sports Day is clashing with the Chinese New Year season. They must also have traditional Chinese drums to symbolize the beat of Bullseye.
For the marchpast competition, Bullseye must learn to have more serious and strict moves and learn from the successes of Homerun.
Some people say that the date of 27th February 2025 has important significance for the victory of Bullseye. Is it true?
According to traditional Chinese culture, as the Sports Day occurs close to a month from the start of the Chinese New Year celebrations, it is still within a month's timeframe from the first day of Chinese New Year. If we deduct the date, 27th February, by three, we get the number 24 as it coincides with the 24 Chinese solar terms. It is considered a day not just conducive to start business, but also to revive lost fortunes. Hence, a Bullseye victory on 27th February 2025 is the best time to do so. Additionally, the day is also very good as it is a day where a business can be blessed with peace and stability for the long term, thus meeting the criteria for a Bullseye victory.
